Who Anasuya is

Anasuya, wife of the sage Atri, was renowned for her austerities and her devotion to her husband. Once, the Ramayana says, during a drought of ten years, her penance made the river Mandakini flow and fruits and roots grow for the sages. When Sita visited her hermitage, Anasuya blessed her, spoke with her about devotion and steadfastness, and gave her a garland, garments, ornaments and an unguent that would keep her radiant through all the years of exile.

“Devotion makes rivers flow. Let us see what it does for a defence.”
