Who Nanda is

Nanda was the chief of the cowherds of Gokula and the foster father of Krishna, a kinsman and friend of Vasudeva. He raised Krishna and Balarama with great love, moving the whole settlement from Gokula to Vrindavana when demons sent by Kamsa troubled the village. When the boys left for Mathura, Nanda returned to Vrindavana grieving, and the love of the cowherds for Krishna became a theme of devotion for all time.

“Welcome to our village. Everyone here is family — even my pieces.”
