Who Nimi is
Nimi, a son of Ikshvaku, founded the kingdom of Videha. Wishing to perform a long sacrifice, he asked Vasishtha to preside; when the sage was delayed by another rite, Nimi began without him. The angered Vasishtha cursed him to lose his body, and Nimi cursed him in return. Offered a body again by the gods, Nimi chose instead to live in the eyelids of all beings — and so every blink is called nimesha. From his body the sages brought forth a son, Mithi, the first Janaka, who gave his name to Mithila.
“I live in every blink. Do not blink, or you will miss my move.”
