Prahasta
Who Prahasta is
Prahasta was the commander-in-chief of Ravana's armies and, according to the Uttara Kanda, a son of the rakshasa Sumali, Ravana's maternal grandfather. In the Yuddha Kanda he sat among Ravana's counsellors and was set to guard the eastern gate of Lanka; when the city was besieged he told the king that he had once advised returning Sita, yet would lay down his life in his service. He led a great sortie against the vanara army, fought fiercely from his chariot and then with a heavy pestle, and fell in single combat to the vanara commander Nila.
“I command the armies of Lanka, and I lead them from the front. Prepare your ranks.”
