Who Raghu is
Raghu was a king of Ayodhya in the solar line of Ikshvaku, so renowned that the dynasty came to be called the Raghus, and Rama himself is named Raghava, "descendant of Raghu". The Bala Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana names him among the ancestors of Rama in the genealogy recited at Rama's wedding, and the Vishnu Purana (Book 4) places him in the line that leads through his son Aja to Dasharatha. His conquest of the four quarters and his gift of all his wealth at the Vishvajit sacrifice are celebrated in Kalidasa's later poem, the Raghuvamsha, which takes its name from him.
“East, south, west and north, I carried my banner to every quarter. This board has only four sides.”
