Shalya
Who Shalya is
Shalya, king of Madra, was the brother of Madri and so the maternal uncle of Nakula and Sahadeva. Marching to join the Pandavas, he was won over by Duryodhana's lavish hospitality along the road and gave his word to fight for the Kauravas, while promising Yudhishthira that he would weaken Karna's spirit if made his charioteer. He drove Karna's chariot in the Karna Parva, led the Kaurava army on the final day, and fell to Yudhishthira's spear.
“I have driven the chariot of the greatest of archers. Let us see how well you hold the reins.”
