Ahiravana
Who Ahiravana is
In the Krittivasi Ramayana and other regional tellings, Ahiravana was a sorcerer king of Patala, the netherworld, and an ally of Ravana. Using his powers of illusion, he crept into the vanara camp at night disguised as Vibhishana, carried off the sleeping Rama and Lakshmana, and took them down to Patala to sacrifice them. Hanuman followed him into the netherworld, rescued the brothers and slew Ahiravana.
“My realm lies below yours. Watch your pieces — I take what is left unguarded.”
