Who Anjana is
Anjana, Jambavan tells the vanaras in the Kishkindha Kanda, was once the apsara Punjikasthala, who was born on earth as a vanara by a curse. Wife of the vanara chief Kesari, she became the mother of Hanuman through the blessing of Vayu, the wind god. Her son's great leap across the sea, Jambavan reminds Hanuman, was his birthright from her and from the wind.
“My son can leap across oceans. That strength began with me.”
