Who Bahlika is
Bahlika was a son of King Pratipa and an elder brother of Shantanu. The Udyoga Parva relates that he left Hastinapura to dwell among his mother's kin and ruled there, while his younger brother Shantanu took the Kuru throne. He lived to see generation after generation of his house, and came to Kurukshetra as the oldest warrior on the field, fighting for the Kauravas beside his son Somadatta and his grandson Bhurishravas, until he fell to Bhima in the night battle of the fourteenth day (Drona Parva).
“I saw my younger brother crowned, and four generations of our house grow up after him. Let an old warrior show you the old ways.”
