Damayanti
Who Damayanti is
Damayanti, princess of Vidarbha, chose Nala at her svayamvara even though four gods had taken on his likeness, recognising the true Nala because only he blinked, cast a shadow and stood upon the ground. When Nala lost his kingdom at dice and left her in the forest, she endured long wandering and hardship without giving up on him. She finally found him through her own careful plan, sending messengers in search of him and announcing a second svayamvara that drew him to Vidarbha in disguise.
“Many faces may look alike. I will know the true move when I see it.”
