Drupada
Who Drupada is
Drupada, king of Panchala, studied in his youth alongside Drona at the hermitage of Bharadvaja, but as king he refused Drona's friendship, saying that friendship exists only between equals. Drona's pupils then captured him, and Drona took half his kingdom. Seeking a son who could overcome Drona, Drupada held a sacrifice performed by the brahmins Yaja and Upayaja, from whose fire Dhrishtadyumna and Draupadi arose; father also of Shikhandi, he allied with the Pandavas and fell in the war at Drona's hands.
“Some purposes take years to ripen. I have learned to wait. Have you?”
