Who Jalandhara is
Jalandhara was born, the Shiva Purana says, from the fire of Shiva's third eye cast into the ocean, and was raised as a son of the sea. He grew into an invincible asura king, protected by the steadfast devotion of his wife Vrinda, and defeated the gods. Proud of his power, he dared to seek Parvati for himself and made war on Shiva. Only when Vrinda's protection was lost could Shiva slay him, cutting him down with a discus he had drawn from the earth with his toe.
“I am protected by one who will not falter. Can you reach me?”
