Jambavan
Who Jambavan is
Jambavan, the venerable king of the bears, was among the eldest and wisest in Sugriva's army. In the Kishkindha Kanda, when the search party stood at the edge of the ocean unsure how to cross, it was he who reminded Hanuman of his own great power and urged him to leap to Lanka; in the Yuddha Kanda he again sent Hanuman to the Himalaya for the healing herbs. The Bhagavata Purana tells that he later held the Syamantaka jewel in his cave, and after a long contest with Krishna recognised him and gave him his daughter Jambavati in marriage.
“I have seen many ages pass. Sometimes the greatest strength is the one that has not yet been remembered.”
