Who Kumbha is

Kumbha, son of the giant Kumbhakarna, rode out to avenge his father's death in the war for Lanka. A superb archer, he wounded Dvivida, Mainda and Angada and drove the vanaras back, until Sugriva, king of the vanaras, came against him. Sugriva broke his bow, and the two wrestled hand to hand until Sugriva struck him on the chest with his fist and killed him.

“My father fell on this field. Today I fight in his name.”

How Kumbha plays chess

Sharp, well-prepared openings and accurate long-range shots — strongest at a distance, weaker in close combat.

The Classicist: Sound, balanced chess: develops, castles and takes what the position offers.

Opening repertoire: Sicilian Najdorf · Grünfeld Defence · Queen's Gambit Declined

Defeat Kumbha in a full game from the normal starting position to earn the achievement Hand to Hand and open the way to the next guardian.
