Who Madhu is

Madhu and his brother Kaitabha were born, the Devi Mahatmya says, from the ear-wax of Vishnu as he slept upon the cosmic ocean at the end of an age. Swollen with strength, the two set out to slay Brahma, seated on the lotus that rose from Vishnu's navel. Brahma praised the Goddess as Yoganidra to awaken Vishnu, who then fought the brothers for five thousand years. Deluded, they offered him a boon, and he asked for their deaths; they asked to be slain where there was no water, and he slew them on his thighs.

“My brother and I have fought for ages. We can fight one more game.”
