Who Mahodara is

Mahodara was one of Ravana's counsellors and generals. When Kumbhakarna was woken and spoke against the war, Mahodara rebuked him and proposed a ruse to Ravana instead: to spread word that Rama had been killed so that Sita, losing hope, would yield to him. In the last great battles he fought from his elephant beside Ravana and was killed in single combat by Sugriva.

“Things are rarely as they seem here. Do not believe all you see.”

How Mahodara plays chess

Full of ruses: quiet openings that hide a sudden trick, played to make you believe the game is already lost.

The Classicist: Sound, balanced chess: develops, castles and takes what the position offers.
