Malyavan
Who Malyavan is
Malyavan was the eldest of three rakshasa brothers, with Sumali and Mali, who once ruled Lanka; he was thus a great-uncle of Ravana. Old and wise, he counselled Ravana in the Yuddha Kanda to make peace with Rama and give Sita back, warning that the omens were dark and that Rama's strength could not be withstood. Ravana scorned his advice and accused him of siding with the enemy, and Malyavan withdrew in sorrow.
“I have seen many wars. Let us play carefully, as old men do.”
