Markandeya
Who Markandeya is
Markandeya was a sage of immensely long life. Tradition tells that he was fated to die at sixteen, and when Yama came for him he clung to a Shiva linga, and Shiva himself defeated Death to save his devotee. In the Mahabharata he tells the exiled Pandavas of the dissolution of the world, when he alone wandered the endless waters and saw a child resting on a banyan leaf, who drew him into his body and showed him all the worlds within.
“I have seen the end of the world. I can see the end of this game.”
