Who Sharmishtha is

Sharmishtha was the daughter of the asura king Vrishaparva. After she quarrelled with Devayani and pushed her into a well, Shukracharya threatened to leave the asuras, and to save her people she agreed to become Devayani's servant. She went with Devayani to the court of King Yayati, who loved her secretly; she bore him three sons, the youngest of whom, Puru, gave his youth to his father and inherited the kingdom.

“I serve quietly. But a servant can still win the kingdom.”
