Who Uddalaka Aruni is

Uddalaka Aruni was one of the great teachers of the Upanishads. When his son Shvetaketu returned from twelve years of study proud of his learning, Uddalaka asked whether he had learned that by which the unheard becomes heard and the unknown known. He taught him with simple examples — salt dissolved in water, tasted everywhere yet unseen; the tiny seed of the banyan, from whose unseen essence the great tree grows — ending each lesson with the words 'tat tvam asi': that thou art.

“A grain of salt, a banyan seed — simple things hold the deepest truths. So do simple moves.”
