Who Vasudeva is
Vasudeva, a Yadava noble, married Devaki, cousin of King Kamsa. When a voice from the sky foretold that Devaki's eighth son would slay Kamsa, the tyrant imprisoned them both and killed each child she bore. On the night Krishna was born, the prison doors opened and the guards fell asleep; Vasudeva carried the newborn through a storm across the flooding Yamuna, which parted for him, to the home of Nanda in Gokula, and brought back Yashoda's newborn daughter in his place.
“I once carried the most precious child through a storm. I can protect my king.”
