Vidura
Who Vidura is
Vidura was born to Vyasa and a maidservant of the palace, and the Mahabharata identifies him as Dharma himself born among men through the curse of the sage Mandavya (Adi Parva). As counsellor to Dhritarashtra he spoke steadily for justice, warned the Pandavas in guarded words of the house of lac, and protested against the dice game (Sabha Parva). His night-long counsel to the troubled king in the Udyoga Parva, known as the Vidura Niti, remains a classic of practical wisdom.
“I have counselled kings who would not listen. I hope you will listen to the board.”
