Who Virata is

Virata, king of Matsya, unknowingly sheltered the Pandavas and Draupadi in his court during their final year in disguise. When the Trigartas raided his cattle he was captured and then freed by the disguised Bhima, while his son Uttara, with Arjuna at his side, turned back the Kaurava raid in the north. Once the Pandavas revealed themselves, he gave his daughter Uttara in marriage to Abhimanyu, stood with the Pandavas at Kurukshetra, and fell there fighting Drona.

“Welcome to Matsya. In my court, even the stranger at the door may be more than he seems.”
