Who Vishvamitra is

Vishvamitra was born Kaushika, a mighty king who, defeated by Vasishtha's spiritual power, resolved to become a brahmarshi himself. Through austerities lasting thousands of years — interrupted by anger, by the apsara Menaka, and by his creation of a new heaven for Trishanku — he finally won that title. He is the seer of the Gayatri mantra. He took the young Rama and Lakshmana to guard his sacrifice, taught them divine weapons, and led them to Mithila, where Rama broke Shiva's bow and won Sita.

“I was defeated once, and spent ages becoming stronger. I do not accept defeat.”

How Vishvamitra plays chess

Relentless ambition: never accepts defeat, and keeps renewing the attack with greater force.
