Who Yajnavalkya is

Yajnavalkya was a great sage and teacher of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, to whom the Shukla Yajurveda is attributed. When King Janaka offered a thousand cows with gold on their horns to the wisest of the sages, Yajnavalkya told his pupil to drive them home, and then answered every challenger in the assembly — among them Gargi — on the nature of the Self and the world. Before renouncing the world, he taught his wife Maitreyi that it is for the sake of the Self that all things are dear.

“Ask me anything. Every challenge on this board has an answer.”
