Who Vyasa is

Krishna Dvaipayana Vyasa, son of the sage Parashara and Satyavati, was born on an island in the Yamuna. He arranged the Vedas into four, and composed the Mahabharata — tradition says he dictated it to Ganesha, who wrote without pause. He was also a part of its story: by his mother's wish he fathered Dhritarashtra, Pandu and Vidura, guided the Pandavas through their trials, and gave Sanjaya the divine sight to describe the war to the blind king. He is honoured as the guru of gurus on Guru Purnima.

“I have written every battle that came before this one. Now we write the last.”
