Who Yuyutsu is

Yuyutsu was a son of King Dhritarashtra by a maidservant of the Vaishya order, born in the same year as Duryodhana (Adi Parva). Just before the battle began, Yudhishthira called out that any warrior who wished to join the Pandavas might do so, and Yuyutsu alone crossed from the Kaurava ranks to their side (Bhishma Parva). He was the only son of Dhritarashtra to survive the war, escorted the women of the royal household home to Hastinapura, and when the Pandavas set out on their final journey they left the kingdom in his care beside the young king Parikshit (Mahaprasthanika Parva).

“I stood with my brothers until I could not in good conscience. Then I crossed the field. Every move here, too, is a choice.”

How Yuyutsu plays chess

A player of conscience who reads the position from both sides of the board, playing reversed openings and switching from defence to counterattack when it is right to do so.

The Trickster: Keeps pieces on and the position tangled, hunting for tricks in every line.

Opening repertoire: English Opening, Reversed Sicilian · King's Indian Attack
