Who Atri is
Atri was one of the great seers of the Rigveda, to whose family its fifth book belongs, and in later tradition one of the seven great sages. He lived with his wife Anasuya in a hermitage near Chitrakuta, where Rama, Sita and Lakshmana visited them as they went deeper into the forest. The Puranas name him the father of Dattatreya, of the moon Soma, and of the sage Durvasa.
“The hymns are old, and so is the wisdom in this game.”
