Who Devaki is
Devaki was a princess of the Yadavas, a cousin of King Kamsa, married to Vasudeva. At her wedding a voice from the sky warned Kamsa that her eighth son would kill him, and he threw the couple into prison and killed six of her children as they were born. Her seventh child was carried into the womb of Rohini and born as Balarama, and her eighth was Krishna, smuggled to safety in Gokula. Years later, after Kamsa's death, she was freed and reunited with her sons.
“I have lost much, and still I hope. Do not count me out.”
