Who Duryodhana is

Duryodhana, also called Suyodhana, was the eldest of the hundred sons of Dhritarashtra and Gandhari and a formidable mace fighter, a pupil of Balarama. Proud and determined, he was a generous and loyal friend who raised Karna to the throne of Anga, but he refused to share the kingdom with his Pandava cousins, and their rivalry led to the war at Kurukshetra. Even after his armies had fallen, he rose from the lake where he had taken refuge and accepted a final mace duel, in which Bhima came forward to meet him.

“I am the eldest son of the Kuru king. I will not give up a single square without a fight.”

How Duryodhana plays chess

A proud, ambitious player who cedes the centre at first, then fights for every square with unyielding determination.
