Indumati
Who Indumati is
Indumati, princess of Vidarbha, held a svayamvara at which the greatest kings of the land assembled. Her companion Sunanda described each king in turn — their power, their wealth, their lands — and Indumati passed by each one, like a lamp moving along a street at night that lights each house and leaves it dark again. She placed her garland on Aja, prince of the Raghus. She lived happily with him in Ayodhya until a celestial garland fell upon her from the sky, and she died, freed from an ancient curse.
“I have passed by many kings. Let us see if your moves are worthy of choosing.”
