Jada Bharata
Who Jada Bharata is
Bharata, son of Rishabha, was a great king who renounced his throne for the forest, but there became so attached to a fawn he had rescued that he died thinking of it and was born as a deer. Born at last again as a brahmin's son, remembering his past lives, he behaved as if dull and witless — 'jada' — so as to form no attachments. When King Rahugana forced him to carry his palanquin and rebuked his clumsiness, Jada Bharata answered with such wisdom on the nature of body and Self that the king fell at his feet.
“I am only a simple fellow. Do not expect much.”
