Who Iravan is
Iravan was the son of Arjuna and the Naga princess Ulupi, raised in the realm of the Nagas. He joined the Pandavas at Kurukshetra and, on the day traditionally counted as the eighth of the war, led a fierce cavalry charge in which five of Shakuni’s six brothers fell. He was slain that same day by the rakshasa Alambusha. Later Tamil tradition, not the Sanskrit epic, honours him as Aravan and remembers him for a voluntary sacrifice before the war.
“My cavalry is ready. Let us ride!”
