Who Madhavi is
Madhavi, daughter of King Yayati, was given by her father to the sage's pupil Galava to help him earn eight hundred rare horses for his teacher. She had a boon that she would regain her maidenhood after each childbirth, and she bore sons to three kings and to Vishvamitra — Vasumanas, Pratardana, Shibi and Ashtaka — each a great king or sage. Afterwards, refusing the husbands chosen for her, she went to the forest and lived as a free ascetic. When Yayati fell from heaven, the merit of Madhavi and her sons raised him up again.
“I have given much, and I remain my own. So does my position.”
