Who Madri is

Madri, princess of Madra and sister of King Shalya, was the second wife of King Pandu. Because of the sage Kindama's curse Pandu could not father children, and Kunti shared with Madri the mantra she had received, by which Madri invoked the twin Ashvins and bore Nakula and Sahadeva. When Pandu, forgetting the curse, approached Madri in the forest and died, she held herself responsible, entrusted her sons to Kunti, and followed him onto the funeral pyre.

“My twins stand together. You must face them both.”
