Who Mandavi is

Mandavi was a daughter of Kushadhvaja, the younger brother of King Janaka, and a cousin of Sita. She was married to Bharata at the great wedding in Mithila where all four sons of Dasharatha were wed. During Rama's exile, when Bharata refused the throne and lived as an ascetic at Nandigrama, ruling only in Rama's name with his sandals on the throne, Mandavi shared those years of austerity.

“We took no shortcuts in those fourteen years. I take none here.”
