Who Manthara is

Manthara was the hunchbacked maidservant who had come with Queen Kaikeyi from her father's home. On the eve of Rama's consecration as heir, she found Ayodhya celebrating and filled Kaikeyi's mind with fear that her own son Bharata would be reduced to a servant. She reminded Kaikeyi of the two boons King Dasharatha owed her, and so set in motion Rama's fourteen years of exile. When Shatrughna later found her, Bharata stopped him from harming her.

“Listen closely. A small word, placed well, can move a kingdom.”

How Manthara plays chess

Works by whispers: quiet moves that slowly poison your position until your own pieces work against you.

The Classicist: Sound, balanced chess: develops, castles and takes what the position offers.

Opening repertoire: Hippopotamus Defence · Polish Defence · St. George Defence

Defeat Manthara in a full game from the normal starting position to earn the achievement Deaf to Whispers and open the way to the next guardian.
