Prahlada
Who Prahlada is
Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu, the asura king who demanded that the whole world worship him alone. From childhood Prahlada was devoted to Vishnu, and no threat or teaching could turn him. His father had him thrown from cliffs, trampled by elephants, bitten by serpents and poisoned; his aunt Holika, who could not be burned, took him into a fire and was burned herself while he was unharmed — remembered at Holi. When Hiranyakashipu struck a pillar demanding to see Vishnu, Narasimha burst forth and slew him, and Prahlada became a righteous king.
“Cliffs, poison, fire — nothing broke my faith. Your attack will not either.”
