Who Samba is
Samba was a son of Krishna and Jambavati, bold and handsome. As a youth he carried off Lakshmana, daughter of Duryodhana, from her svayamvara and was captured by the Kauravas until Balarama came to free him. Later, in jest, the young Yadavas dressed Samba as a pregnant woman and asked visiting sages what child he would bear; the sages cursed that he would give birth to an iron club that would destroy the Yadava race — and so it came to pass.
“A little joke never hurt anyone. Shall we play?”
