Satyavati
Who Satyavati is
Satyavati, raised by the chief of the fishermen, ferried travellers across the Yamuna; there the sage Parashara met her, and she became the mother of Vyasa. When King Shantanu wished to marry her, her father agreed only after Devavrata swore never to claim the throne or to marry, the vow that made him Bhishma. As queen and later queen mother she guided the Kuru line through the deaths of her sons Chitrangada and Vichitravirya, calling upon Vyasa to continue the dynasty.
“I have steered boats and dynasties across deep water. Steer your pieces with care.”
