Who Shabari is
Shabari was an ascetic woman who lived near Lake Pampa in the forest where the disciples of the sage Matanga had once dwelt, serving them faithfully. Her teachers had told her that Rama would come, and she waited for him for many years. Directed to her by Kabandha, Rama visited her hermitage; she honoured him with the fruits of the Pampa forest, and afterwards she entered the sacred fire and rose to the realm of her teachers.
“I have waited many years in this grove. I can wait for your move.”
