Trishanku
Who Trishanku is
Trishanku, a king of the Ikshvaku line, wished to ascend to heaven in his own body. The sage Vasishtha refused to perform such a sacrifice, and when Trishanku turned to Vasishtha's sons, they cursed him to become an outcaste. The sage Vishvamitra, in rivalry with Vasishtha, performed the rite and raised him toward heaven; Indra cast him down; and Vishvamitra created a new heaven with new stars around him, where Trishanku remains, suspended between the worlds.
“I hang between heaven and earth. Will you push me up or pull me down?”
